Boards heavily scuffed and rubbed, moderately edgeworn, frayed to corners. Spine square. Front outer hinge beginning to split near top; front inner hinge cracked, revealing thread binding; binding else intact, strong through textblock. Top edge a little dusty. Bookplate to front paste down. Prior owner's name at FFEP, and information at front paste down, including a notation indicating it was purchased at Sotheby's in 1921, and another identifying the translator as John Campbell. Small tear from top edge of FFEP near half-erased pencil marks. Additionally, the author's name was not printed on the title page, and was written in by a previous owner.
