Clark Ashton Smith, 1922. First Edition. Hardcover. #380 of 500 signed, numbered, limited edition copies. Signed by Clark Ashton Smith at the limitation page (at colophon). This copy is additionally inscribed by Smith to a previous owner at front paste down. A few inked corrections in Smith's hand, including at pages 143 and 148. Maroon cloth with gilt titling - cloth rubbed, frayed to corners and along rear outer hinge, with some staining to front and back. Inner hinges cracked, with exposed webbing. Interior is staplebound; binding sound through text, with some rust formation at staple sites. No jacket. Previous owner's underlining or marginal notation in pencil throughout, with a longer penciled note at page 12. It appears that a stapled bundle of papers hand previously been laid-in in front, with pressure and rust transfer to adjacent pages, including staple punctures in top margin of title page and points of rust staining through first few pages. Spot of deep tanning in the gutter of pages 54-55, consistent with news clipping previously laid-in. Light foxing throughout, more severe to first and last few pages.
